I-LEAP
International Leadership, Excellence, and Professionalism Program

The International Leadership, Excellence, and Professionalism (I-LEAP) Program is an intensive 16-week professional training program. It is designed for students and professionals who want to gain international work experience, hone their English skills, and immerse themselves in American culture.

The I-LEAP program is set in a college town in the heart of America. Participants reside in furnished private apartments adjacent to the university, two blocks from the heart of the city. This safe, friendly community is ideally situated to provide both rural and urban experiences.

I-LEAP consists of three components:

  • American Work Experience
I-LEAP participants are given the unique opportunity to observe American work places through a 13-week professional training program at private corporations, government and university offices, IT-related companies, media companies, schools, and non-profit agencies. By establishing relationships with their co-workers, participants have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience as well as hone their business English skills.
  • Professional Development Seminars and Weekly Feedback Sessions
Professional Development Seminars will be conducted during a two-week period prior to beginning the internship to prepare the participants for the American work-place. These seminars will focus on practical communication, business writing, telephone etiquette, public speaking, and American culture. Weekly meetings with the I-LEAP coordinator and additional seminars are arranged to addresses any issues that may arise during the participants’ internships.
  • American Cultural Experience
The 16-week program will be interjected with field trips and cultural site visits in Columbia and in Missouri to expose participants to American culture. Participants will also be matched with Collegiate Ambassadors who interact with the participants and bring American culture to life.
