Diversity Champion

news_026_001.jpgThe American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) has selected Dana Fritz as an ASHA Diversity Champion. This award recognizes ASHA and National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association (NSSHLA) members who have worked to advance multicultural infusion in the profession and ASHA, served as an advocate or championed the cause of multicultural issues, demonstrated respect and value for differing backgrounds and points of view, and/or have highlighted the impact of culture and/or language on speech-language pathology, audiology, or speech-language or hearing science.

Dana was recognized for her work as coordinator of the Accent Modification Program in the School of Health Professions’ Department of Communication Science and Disorders. The Accent Modification Program works with visiting scholars to MU's Asian Affairs Center as well as non-native students and faculty at MU to develop more native-like speech production. Dana will be recognized at the ASHA Convention in New Orleans in November.
