This is a fabulous opportunity for undergraduate students to experience and understand Korea ,
while teaching English to Korean students who seek greater exposure to the language.


WHAT IS THE PROGRAM ABOUT?

  • The TaLK program invites undergraduate students to Teach English on a Korean Government Scholarship.
  • The program is sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
  • Participants will teach practical English (speaking, listening, and writing) with a Korean teaching assistant in after-school classes of elementary schools at rural areas.
  • Participants will teach 15 hours per week from Monday to Friday (5 days a week/ 3 hours per day) and are not required to work on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays of the Republic of Korea.
  • Term: We are currently accepting applications for the spring 2012 semester at MU.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Those who fulfill the following requirements are eligible :

  1. Undergraduate students who have completed two or more years of university education
  2. Overseas Korean residents or English native speakers who have completed 1 year of university education
  3. All must meet MU's study abroad criteria

 

HOW DO STUDENTS PARTICIPATE?

  • Students must complete an MU Study Abroad application.
  • If eligible, you will be contacted for an interview with Asian Affairs Center or the International Center staff.
  • If accepted, you will have to obtain a criminal record check on your own, and complete a short application online for the Ministry of Education in Korea.
  • Accepted MU students will attend several seminars and classes at the end of the fall 2011 semester and during January intercession as a pre-departure class/orientation.
  • Departure will be the first week of February with an MU staff member.
  • Orientation in Korea will last the month of February, and you will begin your teaching experience around March 1st.
  • Pre-departure sessions and orientation will include understanding Korea, life in Korea, English teaching methodology, and classroom management.

 

WHAT ARE THE PROGRAM BENEFITS?

  • Round-trip airfare
  • Accommodation: Home stay or personal accommodation
  • Allowance: Approximately 1.5 million Korean won (about 1,350 USD) per month
